Seizan Gama, Imari Nabeshima-yaki
A pottery on Nabeshima-hanyozaka founded in 1883. Look for the chimney with Aoyama Kiln written on it in Chinese characters. Imari Okawachiyama has about 30 potteries making Nabeshima ware, which has a long history of being produced under the authority of the ruling clan. Nabeshima ware is unique in that it is painted only with red, yellow, and green. It is said that the clan strictly controlled the production process and the porcelain did not circulate among the populace, meaning it was produced in small batches and was highly valuable. An array of pieces is on display in the show room, including everything from ceramic art to everyday tableware. They also suggest seasonal table arrangements.
