Standing at the center of the Culture Zone with its various cultural facilities, this museum has a metallic exterior. It houses and displays heirlooms of the Matsui clan, former lords of Yatsushiro Castle, as well as arts and crafts. The building was designed by Toyoo Ito, a globally renowned architect. At the Entrance Hall there's a model display of figurines replicating the Yatsushiro Myoken Festival (a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage), as well as videos where you can see the festival as it is today. There are also arts and crafts such as Yatsushiro ware (Koda ware) and Higo sword guards; the museum showcases the history and culture of Yatsushiro from a variety of angles, with artifacts from ancient tombs and the castle ruins, as well as a model of the Yatsushiro Castle Ruins.

「お姫さまの婚礼道具」展を見に行きました。観覧料４００円。「クイズに答えて夫婦円満バッジをもらおう」という企画が秀逸。ヒッカケ問題もあり5問中2問不正解も受付のお姉さまが手取り足取り回答を導いてくれます。正に貝合せこそ新郎新婦にとっては大切な一大イベント。お一人様お局様の訪問もウエルカムですが、人生奈落の底に突き落とされることでしょう。
未来の森の意味がわかりませんでした

駐車場は無料ですが、入館料は300円です。建物が大きいのでたくさんの展示があるのかと思っていましたが、2階は出入り口と受付のみで、展示室は1階に2つあるだけで、展示品は少な目でした。絵画などの写真不可は理解できますが、館内は全て写真不可でした。この内容で300円は高いと思います。建物の建築にお金が掛かり過ぎたのでしょうか？未来の森の意味は最後までわかりませんでした。
伊藤豊雄氏設計の近未来的な姿の博物館

八代城の近く、松濱軒の向かいにある博物館。こちらには八代城代であった、松井家伝来のものが展示されています。建物は仙台メディアテークなどを設計された伊藤豊雄氏で、小高い丘の上に建つ近未来的な姿です。2019年3月末まで改修工場中。続日本100名城八代城のスタンプはこちらに設置してあります。
