Izumo Tamatsukuri Historical Park
This historic park is located at the foot of 200-meter high Mt. Kasen. Pit-type dwellings, cone-shaped shelters, and pedestals indicating the location of workshops are scattered throughout the vast site of about 2.8 hectares. The entire area of Tamatsukuri Onsen has been actively used for making beads such as magatama and tube beads since ancient times. It is said that there were once nearly 50 bead-making villages in the Miyagaki area. In an excavation survey conducted in 1969, tens of thousands of relics were found, such as other rough stones, unfinished beads, whetstones and iron drills for making holes in bead-making workshops. It is also a recreation area with a children's area and tennis court, and it is filled with many families on holidays.
