Sasafuku Shrine
This former prefectural shrine is said to have been founded over 1,100 years ago. Primarily dedicated to Emperor Korei, the seventh emperor of Japan, the shrine is also dedicated to his wife, daughters, sons, and entire lineage. Previously, there was a separate shrine on the opposite shore of the Hino River revered since ancient times as the guardian shrine of Hino County and a patron shrine of iron production since ancient times, but the two were merged into one shrine in 2004. According to legend, Emperor Korei defeated a devil while on an imperial tour of the area, and in turn even today people visit the shrine to pray for better luck and the fulfillment of their wishes.
