Kataribe no Yakata

Other Historic Site/Building
About a 20-minute drive from the Sakata Minato Interchange off the Nihonkai Tohoku Expressway via the National Route 345, this building was reconstructed using the materials from an old residence said to have been built in 1703. It characteristically has low eaves and the earthen hearth covers almost half of the area of the dwelling. It is preserved as a Yuza Town Tangible Cultural Property. Although using the old construction materials, with modern engineering techniques, measures were taken for air-tight heat insulation so that it can be used for meetings, concerts, parties and a wide-range of other cultural events. It is well worth touring just the building.
