Nakayama Municipal Museum of Local History and Culture
Nakayama Muncipal Museum of Local History and Culture is located in the Central Community Center, a five-minute walk from JR Dewa-Nagasaki Station. It presents materials about the inland rural culture of the town of Nakayama, based on growing rice and fruit and boat transportation on the Mogami River. Archeological materials, documents, and folklore items, and other historic items are organized by theme into easily understood exhibits. The permanent exhibition includes materials related to the Iwaya Juhachiya Kannon popular observances, which are National Important Tangible Folk Cultural Properties. Outside the museum, visitors can see a recreation of an ancient pit dwelling. In addition, the museum also offers lectures and history classes, which foster a deeper affection for the region on the part of the local people.
