Fudo Falls

Other Natural Terrain
This waterfall is situated along the Kitaitani River, a tributary of the Koto River. The waterfall’s name is derived from an image of Fudo (Acala) which the great priest Kobo Daishi cut into a rock when he engaged in ascetic training here. The 40-meter-tall waterfall consists of five tiers and is thus also known as “Five Tier Falls.” Situated amidst the mountains away from the city center, visitors rave that coming here feels like you’ve wondered into a lost land. The waterfall was designed a Natural Monument by the prefecture in 1976.
