Akiru Shrine

"Located a 15-minute walk from Musashi-Itsukaichi Station on the JR Itsukaichi Line. Exactly when this ancient Shinto shrine was founded is unclear, but in the ""Sandai jitsuroku"", a history text compiled in 901, the shrine is noted to have been conferred Sixth Order of Merit, Junior Fourth Rank. The shrine grounds are enwrapped in so many Japanese cedars and hinoki cypress trees that they are dark and shadowy even in the middle of the day, creating a magical atmosphere. Today, the shrine is also known by the nickname ""Matsubara-sama"" (""Lord Pine Grove""). The Akiru Shrine Grand Festival, considered one of the three biggest festivals in Akiruno, is held at the end of September. During the festival, a 100 kan (400 kilogram) hexagonal portable shrine, a style seen almost nowhere else in the country, is carried throughout the town and is truly a stunning sight to behold."

立派な神輿

武蔵五日市駅から徒歩15分ほど。創建年不明。祭神は大物主神、味耜高彦根神、建夷鳥神、天児屋根命。鳥居をくぐり、参道を進むと右に直角に折れたところに社殿がある。現社殿は1888年の再建。神輿殿には立派な神輿が収められていたので、例大祭が盛大に行われるのであろう。

五日市の住宅街、清らかな秋川の流れのほとりの杜の中ににあります。梅雨の蒸し暑い日でしたが、秋川からの爽やかな風が境内にも流れていてとても心地よく、清らかな気持ちで参拝できました。境内はさほど大きくありませんが、歴史を感じる巨木の杜の中で沢山の鳥たちのさえずりが聞けました。神楽殿と手水舎は改修工事中でしたが、拝殿右手には精密な虎の木彫りや歴史のある本社神輿、珍しい六角神輿等が展示されています...
