Kameike Park
This park is located about ten minutes from Kainan-higashi Interchange on the Hanwa Expressway. Kameike Pond is a reservoir created by Izawa Yasobee during the Edo period. It is one of the largest reservoirs in Wakayama Prefecture and also the one in Wakayama Prefecture selected as one of the 100 Best Japanese Reservoirs. An artificial island has been built in the center of the pond. Soseikaku, a villa belonging to the Kishu Tokugawa family, was relocated to the island in 1968. The park is also famous for the 2000 or so cherry trees have been planted along the promenade that surrounds the pond as well as around Soseikaku.
