Fukui City Osagoe Minkaen Garden

Historical Monument
A classic townhouse garden surrounded by greenery located at the foot of Mt. Osagoe in the southwest region of Fukui City. Over the vast 3700 square meter grounds you'll find a number of buildings that have been relocated and restored including six classic homes built during the Edo period, a storehouse, an ash-hut, and an outdoor toilet. All are designated as Cultural Properties of the City. Three of the houses are in the traditional Tsuma-iri entrance on gable side style which was widespread throughout the central Echizen and Ono Basin. This style was unique to the region and features the doma earthen floor room and kitchen as one area covered with thick cross shaped beams. Furniture and other household supplies have been arranged in the houses allowing visitors to see how people lived back in those days.
