Togenkyo
This is an area that is famous for producing peaches just about a 20-minute walk from the Shimoisaka Station on the JR Wakayama Line. It is called Togenkyo (meaning paradise) because the area is filled with the perfume of peach blossoms from late March to early April. This area is located along south bank of the Kinokawa River. It is said in this area one may take in 100,000 peach trees in one glance, and it has been selected as one of 100 Best Aromatic Landscapes by Ministry of the Environment . The peaches grown in sandy soil with ideal watershedding conditions in this warm climate are painstakingly harvested and sold under the brand of Arakawa Peaches and distributed all over Japan. In early April, many events along with the Momoyama Festival are held.
