This restaurant featuring local cuisine first opened in 1962. They offer fare such as oden hot pots, fried pork skewers, and mehari-zushi, a local Nanki-Shingu favorite. These rice balls wrapped in mustard leaves get their name from being so large that people's eyes go wide when they open their mouths to eat them. As they hold together well, they're known as one of Japan's favorite packed lunches. The shop always makes them fresh to order so customers can enjoy them right away at the peak of flavor. The shop moved to its current location in August 2018. The building's unique, circular shape will catch your attention.

素朴でおいしいめはり寿司

めはり寿司は寿司と言っても酸っぱくはなく、高菜おにぎりを海苔ではなくやっぱり高菜で包んだ感じのものです。串カツやおでんのセットを頼みたかったのですが、お腹の調子が今ひとつだったのでお蕎麦とのセットにしました。蕎麦は可もなく不可もなくという感じでした。まあ、めはり寿司が美味しかったので良し、という感じです。

熊野地方の名物、めはり寿司の専門店です。持ち帰りでも作りたてのものをいただけます。大きくて頬張るのに目を見開くから、とも目を見張るほど美味しいからとも言われるめはり寿司は高菜のお漬物で巻いたおにぎりで、温かい出来立ては勿論、少し時間がたって味が馴染んだものも美味でした。

握り飯を高菜の葉で包んだ郷土料理です。注文入ってから握っているそうです。おにぎりに醤油塗して有り、それを高菜で包んでいます。定食頼みましたが4個めはり寿司付いてましたが4個は多かったです。成人男子で3個で丁度良いかと。寿司と書いてますが、寿司では無いです。おにぎりです。
