Yamaguchi Kohodo
"This souvenir shop is half way along the approach to Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine and Seigantoji Temple. They sell traditional Nachiguro inkstones used for calligraphy, made of Nachiguroishi black stone. Officially designated Wakayama Prefecture souvenirs, these items are of such superb quality that they've been presented to the Imperial family as gifts. The second-generation shopkeeper is recognized as a Wakayama Prefecture master craftsman and has won the Japan Inter-Design Award. The shop is renowned for a kind of inkstone known as the ""Mandala-no-Michi,"" made from a particularly rare variety of Nachiguroishi black stone. Their figurines of owls and the mythical yatagarasu are popular."
