Hachimanyama Castle Ruins
The site of a ruined castle located at the summit of Mt. Hachiman in Miyauchi-cho, Omihachiman City. The castle was built by the samurai lord Toyotomi Hidetsugu in 1585 but was abandoned shortly after his death. Today, the castle’s stone base still stands and items such as roof tiles covered with gold leaf have been recovered from site of the related residence of Toyotomi Hidetsugu at the foot of the mountain. The Zuiryuji Temple is also located at the mountain’s summit; the family temple of Toyotomi Hidetsugu, it was moved here long ago from Kyoto.
