Kunitomo Gun Museum
A museum located in Kunitomo-cho, Nagahama City. The museum contains exhibits on the history of Kunitomo, an area which flourished as a center for “teppo” gun production from shortly after their introduction to Japan during the Warring States period through to the Edo period. Visitors can see exhibits on the Kunitomo teppo gun production process and a recreation of what a Kunitomo blacksmith’s workshop looked like, as well as real matchlock teppo guns. The museum also has exhibits on engineers and cultured persons born in Kunitomo such as Kunitomo Ikkansai, who conducted astronomical observations using his own home-built reflecting telescope; and tea ceremony master Tsuji Sohan.
