Hyakusaiji Temple

A Buddhist temple located in Hyakusaiji-cho, Higashiomi City. Founded by Prince Shotoku in 606, it is the oldest temple in Omi and has been designated a National Historic Site. The temple’s principal object of worship is an eleven headed figure of the Kanzeon Bodhisattva which is also known as the “Garden Tree Kannon.” Together with the Saimyoji Temple and KONGOURINJI-Temple, it is counted as one of the Three Temples of Koto.

ツアーで訪問しました。お参りの後見学しました。百済寺本坊の喜見院の横に広がる庭園で、山を借景に池と大岩を配した池泉回遊式庭園です。「天下遠望の名園」で、本坊から見る庭園は紅葉が大変美しかったです。庭園内の道を通り、少し上った所にある遠望台から見る庭園も美しく、また遠望台からは遠く琵琶湖や比叡山まで展望できます。

湖東三山の一角を成す百済寺の、秋が深まる庭園に立ち寄りました。平安末期の作庭と云われる池泉廻遊・鑑賞式の名庭園です。本坊「喜見院」前の濡れ縁に腰を降ろして眺める、大石や岩で縁取られた池が最初のビューポイント。こちらでは、紅葉期に差し掛かった周囲の樹々が映り込む静なる池と、その済んだ水面を泳ぎ回る錦鯉たちが、ビジターが撒いてくれる餌に大きな口を開けて寄ってくる動なる光景を見ることができました...
聖徳太子ゆかりのお寺にある庭園

「くだら」ではなく「ひゃくさい」と呼ぶのが正式のようです。聖徳太子の建立によるお寺で、ルイス・フロイスの書簡にも出てくるそうです。歴史があるとても趣のあるお寺で、庭もとても落ち着いた雰囲気でよかったです。
