Chiryu Shinto Shrine

A Shinto shrine standing along the Toyota-Minami Bypass in Nishi-machi Jinden, Chiryu City. According to legend, the temple was founded during the reign of Japan's 12th emperor, Emperor Keiko (71-130). In the Edo period, the shrine was counted as one of the three major shrines on the Tokaido highway. Believed to grant protection from mamushi pit vipers, a poisonous variety of snake which lives in the region, the shrine was once frequented by Tokaido travelers. The Chiryu Festival is held each year on May 2 and 3. The full festival is held every second year, and during this time five spectacular traditional shrine floats are put on parade. National Important Intangible Folk-Cultural Property-designated ningyo joruri puppet theater performances are also conducted.

本殿西側の裏庭に足を運べば菖蒲園があります。今年は花が早いのか、まだ本数は少ないのかもしれませんが十分に楽しめます。
創建は112年になります

設置されている案内板からですが、創建は112年になるとのこと。とても想像できない時代ですね。境内では多宝塔が一番目立ちますが、国指定の文化財に指定されるほど由緒あるものです。三河国の二宮になります。
三河国の二宮で東海道三大社の一つですが・・・

創立は諸説ありますが、一説では112年とも云われる由緒正しい神社で三河国の二宮でもあります（一宮は砥鹿神社）。元々は現在の場所より東の方にあり、現在の場所に移ったのは1573年と云われています。見どころとして多宝塔、輪橋などがあり、輪橋（太鼓橋）は渡ることは出来ませんが全長6.6ｍで19枚の石板を用いて作られています。そして、1点気になるポイントでもあり、やや物悲しいのが「東海道三大社の一つ...
