Haritaya Main Shop

Japanese Confectionery
This long-established Japanese confectionary shop was founded in 1860. It is said that it began with steamed manju that was served to shrine visitors who came by boat from Ise Bay. Their specialty is Itoin Senbei, created as a confection in tribute to the emperor's Ise Jingu Shrine visit in 1905. A senbei rice cracker made from a thinly baked batter of egg, sugar and flour, it is bake with an itoin (old Chinese seal) mark on the surface. The seal is derived from a copper seal that was used as a proof of transaction in the raw silk trade with China. In addition, the store also sells seasonal Japanese sweets made mostly of bean paste.
