Nigorigo Onsen (City-operated Outdoor Bath)

This municipal day-use hot spring facility is in central Nigorigo Onsen. At an altitude of 1,800 meters on one of Japan's leading highlands, it has large men's and women's outdoor baths and an off-the-beaten-track feel imbued with rustic beauty. It's a hydrogen carbonate spring (sodium, calcium-bicarbonate, and sulfate hot spring), and is said to be good for nerve pain, arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, and more. Prefectural Route 441 leading to Nigorigo Onsen is also called the “Ontake Panorama Line and driving it in the early summer or fall when the leaves turn color is particularly recommended.

山中の辺鄙な場所にあり冬季閉鎖で、6ケ月ほど営業の日帰り温泉露天風呂です。温泉入口は小ぶりな管理棟のような施設受付ですが、脱衣場を出ると広い露天風呂があります。露天風呂は二つあり、訪問時手前の大露天風呂が４４度弱の熱め、奥の露天が温めの４１.５度の湯温でした。１０月中旬で露天風呂の周囲の木々が紅葉で彩られとても鮮やかでした。温度の違う露天風呂を交互に入浴しました。とても気持ち良い露天風呂を独...
