Of all the traditional industries of Toyama Prefecture, Gokayama washi (Japanese paper) has the longest history. So long, in fact, that there are even records of it being dedicated to Maeda Toshinaga, the head of the Kaga Domain, over 500 years ago. This agricultural association located in Shimonashi, Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture sells this historic washi paper in the form of paper for paintings and calligraphy, washi-based folk crafts, and various washi-based sundries. It also launched the GOKKA brand of modern washi-based products such as gift bags and letter boxes. The association, which is located 1.5 kilometers east of the World Heritage site Ainokura Gassho-zukuri Village on Route 304, also offers paper-making lessons and facility tours.

相倉合掌造り集落にある和紙漉き体験館です。天狗のあしあとをさらに進んだ奥に位置しています。店名だと思いますが、和紙屋の看板も出ています。和紙漉き体験はしませんが、ショップでたくさんお和紙の製品が販売されています。職人の手漉きの「耳付きはがき」１０枚セットを６５０円で買い求めました。

予約なし一人でもできます。まず職人さんがやり方を一通り実際にやって見せてくれるのでわかりやすいです。紙をすいて、その上に押し花の飾りを載せて乾燥させます。体験自体はやることがそんなにありませんが機械などを見るのは珍しくて楽しかったです。乾かすのに少し時間がかかります。さほど高くもないので時間があるようなら体験されるのをおすすめします。

相倉集落にある古民家で和紙すき体験に行きました。600円で和紙をすけます。パルブを板ですくい、左右にゆすり平らにしてから第二乗せ水を切ります。その上に星やハート型に切られた色紙をまぶしデザインしてからもう一枚前述のように平らにしたパルプを敷き完成です。模様は色紙がサンドウィッチされており透けて見えていたことがわかりました。後は今日りょなバキュームで水を吸い取りこれで完全に2枚の和紙か結合、最後に乾...
