This museum, which was reopened after renovations in 2016, is a place where you can encounter a new kind of “crab culture.” In this hands-on facility, visitors can have fun and learn about Echizen crabs and the mysteries of the Sea of Japan. The facility is divided into seven zones including the Crab Lab where you can study the different kinds of crabs and the structure of their bodies and the Under-sea Tunnel where you can see the different fish of the seasons off the Echizen coast.

2019年11月越前カニ祭りで大学２年の娘と訪れました。高速道路の事故、渋滞で到着が14時と出遅れました。道の駅越前で毎年開催されます。道路も渋滞、すごい人出です。カニを求めて「カニ食いに行こう」です。毎年、少しづつ値段が上がっています。けれど美味しいカニを食べに来てしまいました。

規模的にけっして大きいものではありませんが、カニに特化していること、道の駅の併設施設であることを考えるとなかなか力の入っている施設だと思います。越前がにといえば黄色のタグですが、そのタグつきのカニが泳ぐ水槽もあります。２月に訪れたときはちょうどカニの赤ちゃんを見ることもできました。
