白河から289号線で会津・芦ノ牧温泉へ向かう途中に立ち寄った。2月の下旬ということで甲子トンネルを越えると、圧雪路に変わり道路の両側は1,5メートルほどの雪の壁。雪道を緊張して運転していたので、「道の駅しもごう」で一息つけてよかった。木工品や地元の特産物が売られているほか、手打ちそばや会津地鶏丼が食べられるレストランが併設されている。

山間部にある小さな道の駅です。ゆったりとした駐車場、物販や食事処、観光案内などを完備。広い芝生の起伏のあるスペースがあり犬連れにはありがたい。景色も最高でした。
