Saitama Aquarium

The Saitama Aquarium is located inside the Hanyu Suigo Park which also is a natural habitat for the waterwheel water plant. The aquarium primarily displays the 70 different forms of life that thrive in the Arakawa River. The display is designed to depict 200 kilometers of the Arakawa River, from upstream downwards to the river mouth. A nationally protected species, the Tokyo bitterling, and the prefectural fish, a stickleback species, Pungitius, the carnivorous water plant, the waterwheel plant are nurtured and displayed.

淡水魚に特化した水族館です。羽生インターから車で5分くらいで着きました。広大な公園の中にある水族館で、駐車場は広いです。料金は安く、大人は400円、小学生は100円でした。上流から下流に生息する淡水魚を観察でき、亀のふれあいコーナーもありました。海水魚と違い、色が地味なので、視覚的な感動はなかったですが、日本の川に生息している魚がメインですので、身近な感じを受ける水族館でした...

海なし県の埼玉県ならではの、海水魚のいない埼玉県営の水族館です。本館の展示は川の流れと同じように、上流の生き物-中流の生き物-下流の生き物の順になっています。その他に、外来魚のコーナーや希少淡水魚のコーナーなどがあります。特別展示棟では甲殻類の展示がされていました。淡水魚について知るには良い勉強になりますが、やはり海水魚がいないと、地味で迫力に欠ける水族館に感じます。県営の施設だけあって新型コロナ...
