Kasamori-Kannon Temple
Founded by Saint Saicho, the patriarch of Tendai Buddhism in 784, this ancient Kasamori Kannon temple, is so called because of its eleven-faced Kannon. Designated the 31st Kannon in the Bando 33 Kannon Pilgrimage, the Kasamori Kannon Temple has been recognized as a sacred place for centuries. The kannon hall is built atop a large boulder, and is the only four directional kakezukuri structure in Japan, and thus designated a National Important Cultural Property.
