Saiundo Honten

Japanese Confectionery
A long-standing Japanese confectionary shop renowned for its “wakakusa,” a sweet viewed as a Matsue souvenir standard. Saiundo is located a 10 minute walk from Matsue Station. Wakakusa is a Japanese-style sweet consisting of soft gyuhi glutinous rice dumplings covered with light green kanbaiko glutinous rice flour. These legendary treats take their name from a poem written by Matsudaira Harusato, the seventh lord of Matsue Domain. In addition to wakakusa, the shop sells a wide variety of Japanese and Western-style sweets made with select ingredients, as well as seasonal “namagashi” fresh sweets. There’s also a café space where you can enjoy a namagashi and matcha green tea set.
