Catholic Tsuruoka Church

Tsuruoka Catholic Cathedral is located a five-minute walk from the Shiyakusho (City Hall) mae bus stop on the bus line from Tsuruoka Station. It is a beautiful church with a red roof and white walls, designed by Father Papineau and completed in 1903. A masterpiece of Meiji (1868–1912) period Romanesque architecture. On one of its altars stands the only statue of the Black Madonna in Japan and one of the few in the world. Another feature unique among Japanese churches is that its pictorial windows are not made of stained glass but of pictures painted on transparent paper pressed between two panes of glass.

美しい教会です

鶴ヶ丘城址に近い白い壁と赤い尖塔の建物です。案内板によれば明治期に建てられたようで山形県の文化財として指定されています。内部は畳の上にパイプ椅子が置かれています。入り口の上にはパイプオルガン、音を聞いてみたいものです。
鶴岡カトリック教会

鶴岡市内の中心部、鶴ヶ丘城址のすぐ近くにある鶴岡カトリック教会てんしゅどう。建設されたのが1903年と歴史があり、当時の建物が残っている日本の教会としては非常に珍しい教会だ。教会は白亜の壁、聖楼も細く高いので、とても美しい建物だ。
ヨーロッパの教会と同じ《リウ・ウォールト天井》にフランスからやって来た《黒い聖母マリア》に会えます

建物そのものが《国重要文化財》になっており外国には６体ほど《黒いマリア像》があるようですが日本国内では唯一こちらだけと知り訪問しました。ヨーロッパの教会を訪問された方がこちらに足を踏み入れると懐かしいと思う《リウ・ウォールト天井》に再会出来、有名な《黒い聖母マリア》もフランスの修道院から来ており鶴岡にいながら海外の教会の香りに触れることが出来ます。
