Shokawa-zakura

Place famous for cherry blossoms
The Shokawa-zakura, designated as a Natural Monument by Gifu Prefecture, is an ancient sakura tree over 500 years old, sitting on the bank at Miboro Dam. This tree was going to be sunk during the destruction of the dam, but in a surprising turn of events, people rallied together to transfer the tree to this new location, saving its life. It continues to bloom today, and is best seen between late April and early May.
