Maruoka Castle (Kasumigajo)

This castle on a hill, located in Maruoka Town of Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, was built by Shibata Katsuie’s nephew Shibata Katsutoyo in 1576. Nowadays, only two-story and three-roofed castle tower (tenshukaku) remains, and it was registered as Important Cultural Properties in 1950. It is the oldest tenshukaku in existence in the country, and about 400 cherry trees were planted around it as part of the surrounding Kasumigajo Park. A light-up event is held when the cherry blossoms bloom, giving the tower an ethereal look.

BEAUTIFUL CASTLE TOWER

Take the Keihuku bus No.36 from Fukui station west gate.The castle tower and the stonewall are beautiful.We can enter into the tower, that has an awesome view and enjoy the historic building.
