Suganuma Gassho-zukuri Village

Historical Monument
A small village surrounded by a riverbed on three sides in Suganuma, Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture. The village consists of nine gassho-zukuri style homes with steep thatched roofs as well as old earthen-walled storehouses and other structures surrounded by rural scenery. Here visitors can get a taste of old Japan. There’s a museum where you can learn about the history and traditions of Gokayama and come in contact with the harsh climate of the area and the simple lifestyles of the people who live here. The village is registered as part of the Ainokura Gassho-style Village World Heritage Site. The buildings of the village are also lit up differently each season at night.
