Takada Family Residence

Other Historic Site/Building
The Nagamachi Samurai District is a popular tourist destination in Nagamachi, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture; a gate called the Nagaya-mon Gate stands in a corner of the district. The gate is the entrance to the Takada Family Residence; the Takada family were once feudal retainers of the former Kaga Domain who received 550 koku of rice annually. Today, the Nagaya-mon Gate has been restored to its original state and the residence is open to the public. A traditional circular garden built around a central pond stands on the residence’ grounds which is dotted with Japanese red pines and a meandering stream fed by the Onosho Irrigation Channel also flows through the garden. Other highlights include the servants’ quarters, stable, and workshop. The residence is a valuable site which offers visitors a glimpse of the life of a samurai family during Japan’s feudal domain era.
