Ganko Ittetsu Nagaya, Sumi no Shiryokan
You’ll find this artisan tenement about a five-minute walk from Nishinokyo Station. The facility is run by seven artisans who utilize traditional Yamato techniques. Their workshops face the street, and they create tea whisks, plaited cords, “ittobori” wood sculptures, Akahada pottery, writing brushes, and dry lacquer for all to see. The items on display inside the workshops are for sale as well. The nearby “Sumi no Museum” hosts exhibits on special inks and paintings. Entry is available with a joint ticket offered by the tenement.
