Horin-ji Temple

Temple
A Buddhist temple located in Mii, Ikaruga Town. Founded in the Asuka period, the temple is said to have been erected by Prince Yamashiro no oe, son of Prince Shotoku. No structures from the time of the temple’s foundings remain today. The temple’s three-tier pagoda, designated a National Treasure in the Meiji period, burned down after a lightning strike in 1944; it was rebuilt in 1975. The temple houses numerous precious Buddhist statues designated as Important Cultural Properties, including an Asuka period seated statue of Yakushi Nyorai (Healing Buddha),
