The laws of Edo regulating the expenditures of the commoners notwithstanding, the Matsusaka Stripe was the pride and joy of the most fashionably dressed and admired. At Matsusaka Cotton Hand Weaving Center one can experience the depth of weaving while imagining the Edo period when all Matsusaka Cotton was hand-woven. There are two weaving courses available, one for the size needed to cover small accessories and the other for larger fabric about one meter in size, and it is possible to try these courses if one makes a reservation at least three days in advance. It is located approximately 15 minutes by car from Matsusaka IC on the Ise Expressway.

松阪市産業振興センターの一階にある施設です。松阪もめんを使った品が多数販売されています。この近辺には昔ながらの街並みも残り、歴史地区でもあるので足を運ぶことをお奨めします。

木綿が松阪の特産物であることを初めて知りました。こちらには、機織り器械などもあって懐かしい雰囲気です。作務衣などの木綿製品の販売もしていました。地方らしい素敵な展示館です。

「松阪もめん」という伝統文化を知らずに、松阪駅前のホテルに4泊したのですが、松阪もめんって歴史が深く、奥ゆかしいんだな、と思わず感じる場所でした。お土産で松坂もめんを使用した藍色の商品が勢ぞろいしていましたが、さすがに値が張ります。しかし、これくらい高値がついて当然と思える出来の良さでした。施設の名前通り、予約すればここで機織りを体験できます。母にこれを話したら、「楽しそう」と答えました...
