The Japanese government has designated Gumyoji, a temple in Yokohama's Minami Ward, an Important Cultural Property. Worshipers visit it to pray for the safety of their homes and families, success in business, and protection from bad luck. On days of the month that contain an 8, an event called the Festival of the Eleven-Faced Kannon is held, in which people pray for recovery from illness or fulfillment of their most earnest desires. On days of the month that contain a 3, people who want to find a marriage partner or have children come to the Festival of Daishokangiten, the Japanese name for the Hindu god Ganesha.

大地のヘリ

かつてはこの坂の上にある弘明寺が大地のヘリでそこから先の下ったところは海だったのだろうと想像できる高さです。京急電車から近く、桜の季節は混んでいます。

横浜市営地下鉄弘明寺駅からは徒歩5分ほど。アーケードの商店街を抜けたところが境内入口。趣きのある仁王門があるがすぐ手前のパチンコ店が雰囲気を壊している。737年創建の高野山真言宗の寺院。本尊は十一面観世音菩薩(国重要文化財)。現本堂は1766年の再建だが1044年建立時の一部木材が再利用されている。弘明寺と言えば東京・神奈川あたりでは名の知れた寺院であるが、ごく普通の寺院で見どころはあまりない...

京急、市営地下鉄どちらを利用してもちかいところにあるお寺がここです。境内には七つ石なんてのもあって上からの景色はいいですよ。今年の桜の時期はいろいろなイベントが中止のポスターが残念です。
