Lake Ippeki

Lake
Lake Ippeki is located in the Yoshida district of Ito City. Lake Ippeki is a caldera lake that was formed by a volcanic eruption around 100,000 years ago; it has an average diameter of around 600 meters. Known as the “Pupil (in the eye) of Izu,” Lake Ippeki is said to have been a particular favorite of the author and poet Yosano Tekkan and his wife, the poet Yosano Akiko. There are footpaths around the Lake, enabling visitors to stroll round and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery, which varies with the seasons (including spectacular autumn foliage). Lake Ippeki is also famous as a place for bass-fishing.
