Toi Daruma-dera Temple

The Toi Daruma-dera Temple is a temple located on National Route 136 in the Koshimoda district of Izu City. The five-meter-high “Immortal Daruma-daishi” statue in the Temple’s Main Hall is famous as being the largest seated statute of Daruma in Japan. It is said that if you recite the “Namu-Damo-Sowa-Ka” chant three times, and then attach a good-luck tally with your wish written on it to a Daruma doll, your wish will come true.

祭られるダルマさんに申し訳ないですが、商売としか思えないお寺。伊豆市のHPにも載っているものの「〜開創いたしました」とあり、歴史も何もありません。境内への階段を登る前に良く情報を得ることをお勧めします。

見事な漆黒の大仏様でした。結構杯観客も多くにぎわっていましたが混雑しているというレベルではありません。

日本一の達磨というふれこみで立ち寄ってみました。大きな達磨もいいですが、右にあった文字で書いてる達磨の掛け軸が凄いです。有名人もたくさん来ていて、90年頃に白血病になった渡辺謙さんが訪れたときの写真もありました。白血病が治ったのなら御利益もありそうです。
