Other Historic Site/Building
The Monument to Perry’s Landing is located in the Perry Landing Park on Prefectural Highway 117 in the 3-chome district of Shimoda City. The Monument was built to commemorate the landing by U.S. Navy Commodore Matthew Perry and his party, prior to the signing of the Convention of Kanagawa (also known as the “Japan – U.S. Treaty of Peace and Amity”) in 1854. Besides a bust of Perry, the Monument is also decorated with an anchor presented by the U.S. Navy.
