The Suwa city museum of ART is in a space converted from what used to be a “Memorial Hall” for Katakura Industries, which was built in 1943. It is Nagano Prefecture’s first public art museum. The museum opened in 1956 and is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property. It has a collection of nearly 1,400 items mainly focused on modern art, including works by artists both local and celebrated nationwide. It’s about a seven-minute walk from the west exit of JR Kami-Suwa Station.

温泉施設の片倉館と併設されており、美術館、温泉、諏訪湖畔と楽しむことができます。近くには間欠泉などもあるのでこの付近を散策するにはお勧めの場所です。

美しい美術館です。ガラス工芸や現代日本画や、多目的ギャラリーなど、様々な分野の展示をされています。また、特別展などに合わせて講演会なども催されています。

美術館巡りでここも寄りました。諏訪湖の湖岸通りにあり、JR諏訪駅から徒歩10分です。こじんまりした美術館ですが、建物は国の重要文化財です。昭和18年に建てられた片倉製糸の「懐古館」を当時の趣のまま美術館として利用しています。展示場は1階と2階があり、1階は円柱形の柱を配置した洋風の趣となっています。2階にはダンスホールのような印象を与えます。エレベーターの設備はありませんが足のご不自由な方は、昇降...
