This soba restaurant, founded as far back as 1624, is said to be the second oldest restaurant in Japan. The restaurant prides itself on serving great tasting soba with its commitment to “freshly ground, kneaded and boiled” noodles. Their white soba, made using traditional methods unchanged since the restaurant came into being, is one of their most characteristic dishes. The soup which the noodles are served in is made with carefully selected ingredients and tastes superb. A popular dish throughout the year is their soba sushi, and available only during the winter is their kamo nanban (duck and soba). The restaurant can seat groups of up to 40 people although you’ll need to book ahead.

旧中山道の開業本店へ出かけましょう

現在営業中の店舗から徒歩5分の旧中山道沿いには開業当時の店舗が残っている。こんなところで蕎麦を食いたかったが、今の国道沿いの店舗はその雰囲気が薄れて残念。味・接遇ともにとてもよいが、日本食は雰囲気も大事！？

寝覚ノ床を見学した後に、目の前にあったのでふらっと入りましたが、正解でした。江戸時代からの歴史のあるおそば屋さんで、歴史的に様々な著名人も立ち寄ったことがあるとのことですが、そうした歴史にあぐらをかくこと無く丁寧に営業されているように思いました。おそばはかなりおいしいです。普通に頼むとざる2枚が出てくるのが特徴的。

創業寛永元年長野県上松町にある蕎麦屋の[越前屋]。日本で二番目に古い蕎麦屋だそうです。こしはありますが、個人的には蕎麦湯がもう少し濃い方がよいかなぁ
