Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street

Shopping Street
This covered shopping street is centered on the road approaching Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. Running north to south for 2.6 kilometers from Tenjinbashi 1-chome to Tenjinbashi 6-chome, it is famous as Japan's longest shopping street. There are approx. 600 stores along the street. During the Edo period (1603-1868), the Tenman vegetable market was located nearby, and the street developed around the market as the main approach to the shrine. Many events are held centered on the shrine to this day. The stores sell everything from clothing to food, and include cafes, restaurants and izakaya bars.
