Gion Kobu Kaburenjo

Gion Kobu Kaburenjo is in Kyoto's Higashiyama Ward. It was originally a remodeled version of a building at Kenninji Temple in 1873, but it was moved and rebuilt on its present site in 1913. It has been designated a Kyoto Prefectural Tangible Cultural Property. It is renowned as a site for traditional performing arts presented by maiko (apprentice geisha) and for the Miyako Odori, a program of traditional dances performed every spring.
