Tango Chirimen History Museum

This museum is in Yosano Town, Yosa County, Kyoto Prefecture. Housed in an old factory site, visitors can observe the whole chirimen silk crepe making process from weaving to dyeing. You can also buy silk items like rare cuts of hagire cloth and scarves while getting a feel for the production of silk goods as it's been handed down since the middle Edo period.

歴史館と銘打っていますが、半分は絹製品売り場です。丹後縮緬の歴史に興味があるので、期待して行きましたが、縮緬や丹後地域の歴史的文化的な解説はとおりいっぺんのもので、残念でした。

老舗の絹織物工場跡地にオープン（無料）した歴史館です。昭和初期のレトロな雰囲気が残る工場内には織物の歴史を学べる展示がなされています。織りの工程が見学できる施設もあります。奥に進むとちりめん製品の販売所になっています。定番のスカーフやネクタイが格安な値段で買い求めることができます。

宮津から出石に向かうドライブの途中で「丹後ちりめん歴史館」に立ち寄りました。昭和初期に建てられたら広い木造織物工場をリフォームした施設です。建物内部ではジャガード織機を始め幾つかの織機が操業中で迫力がありました。ちりめん関連商品も沢山販売されています。
