Having the oldest history of Kyoto’s three Kumano shrines, this was built in 811 when the holy priest Nichien invited the deity Kishu Kumano Okami. A great many visitors come to wish for help with marriage, child delivery or recovery from illness.

東大路と丸太町通の交差点にある京都ではよく知られた神社。歴史は古く平安時代にさかのぼるが、応仁の乱で荒廃し、江戸時代に再興されたという。
