Rozanji Temple

Temple
This Buddhist temple was originally founded by the great priest Gansan in 938 in the Kitayama area of Kyoto. After encountering numerous fires as the result of wars, it was moved to its current location during the Tensho period (1573–1593) by Toyotomi Hideyoshi as part of his efforts to concentrate the city’s shrines and temples in a single area. Deeply devoted to the Imperial household for generations, the temple nave is a portion of the Sento Gosho (Imperial Palace) moved here at the command of Emperor Kokaku. The temple is also known as the location of the residence of Murasaki Shikibu, renowned author of the Tale of Genji, and there is a stone monument marking the site of her former home in addition to a garden called the Genji-tei on the temple grounds. From the end of June to the beginning of September is the best time to see the Genji-tei’s lovely purple Chinese bellflower blossoms.

    4.0 Reviewed : 2020.08.04
    廬山寺は1573年に現在の地に移転。当時は紫式部が育った邸宅であり、源氏物語を執筆。同時に源氏庭が整備されました。キキョウの花がきれいに咲いています。
