Salon de thé François is a stylish Western-style construction accessible on foot walking south along the Takasegawa River from Kawaramachi Station. The interior is the work of founder Tateno Shoichi, and feels just like the hall of a luxury ship. From its establishment in 1934 it has been used a place for liberal-minded people to interact, and in 2003 it was designated a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. The coffee is the Vienna type full of fresh cream. There is also a great selection of Western sweets that go well with the coffee.

12時過ぎに、もういっぱいで入れないかと思いながら訪問しました。店内は空いていて、シャッター音がとめどなく聞こえていました。これはお昼ではなくおやつの時間にケーキを食べに来るべきだったと言いながら頼んだ紅茶とトースト。紅茶には香り付けにブランデーを入れてくれましたがティーバッグの出過ぎた紅茶で渋いし不味い…ので飲めませんでした。お花が飾ってあり、のんびり過ごすような曲がかかっている中のあちこちから...
