Harajiri Falls
This is an impressive waterfall 20 meters high and 120 meters wide is counted among Japan’s top 100 waterfalls and Oita Prefecture’s top 100 scenic beauties. It is unusual in that it appeared from the ground so suddenly, created 90,000 years ago with the eruption of Mt. Aso and the subsequent pyroclastic flow. It is also called the “Niagara of the Orient.” A suspension bridge spans the front and it is possible to walk close to the falling waters.
