A museum dedicated to Koetsu Ichinei, one of Japan's top mountain photographers and the leading photographer of the Daisetsuzan Volcanic Group. Housed inside the renovated building of the former Sounkyo Elementary School, the museum's 1,570 square meters of exhibition space make it one of the largest photo museums in Japan. This space has been put to use and one of the museum's defining characteristics is its many large photographs on display. The museum's collection consists of photos taken by Ichinei presenting the four seasons of the Daisetsuzan Volcanic Group as well as the creatures that live there.

層雲峡を訪れたら是非立ち寄って下さい。大雪山の四季を大判カメラで撮影し、大伸ばしした作品は迫力があって見ごたえがあります。写真の隣には撮影場所、撮影時期、作者の山への思いが記されており、見入ってしまいます。作品以外では、作者の山と渓谷の連載記事や撮影で使用された登山道具の展示があって、こちらも大変面白い。なお、展示作品は購入可能です。
