Road valley of illusion and mystery of the will-o'-the-wisp
There is a promenade leading from Jigokudani Observatory to Tessen Pond. Footlights are place along the sides of the wooden walkway to illuminate it at night. This illuminated pathway, the only source of light in the pitch-dark mountains until Tessen Pond, is likened to a path of the will-o'-the-wisps. People love the magical scene created by the steam covering the landscape of this former exploded crater. Entry is free throughout the day and night. The walkway is lit up from sundown until 21:30.
