Kotan no Yu

A free outdoor bath built on the shore of Lake Kussharo. The bath was built by local volunteers over a one month period. The bath is just five meters away from the edge of the lake. If your timing is good, you can soak in a hot outdoor bath while enjoying the sight of swans swimming on the lake. The changing areas for men and women are separate but the bathing areas of the bath itself, built of stones and boulders, are interconnected but divided by a large boulder, basically making this a mixed bathing facility. Bathers may choose to wear a bath towel or swimming suit in the bath. Note that no amenities are sold here and no bathing essentials are offered for rental. The bath is closed every week on Tuesdays and Fridays for cleaning. It may also be closed as necessary depending on the weather.
