The Goto Sumio Museum
The Goto Sumio Museum is dedicated to the work of Japanese painter Goto Sumio, who has been depicting the natural beauty of Hokkaido in his paintings for half a century. The Museum displays a comprehensive range of Mr. Goto’s work, from the first of his paintings to be selected for inclusion in the Japanese Art Institute Exhibition and other early works through to his landscapes and sketches showing the flowers associated with different seasons of the year. The Museum shop sells books containing collections of paintings, exhibition catalogs, etc. The Museum restaurant, “Furano Grill,” is also highly recommended; while they eat, diners can enjoy spectacular views of the peaks of Mt. Tokachi and the nearby hills. The Museum is around 5 minutes’ drive from JR Kamifurano Station.
